Roundup: Redwood volleyball beats Mission Oak


The Redwood volleyball team swept Mission Oak 25-19, 25-14, 25-15 in a nonleague match Tuesday.

Rebekah Cervantes had six kills and one block, and Chandler McKean, Brooke Gilcrest, Jazmine Gilcrest and Jillian Nyberg recorded four kills each.

McKean also had four blocks, and Nyberg added 11 assists.

The Rangers (2-0) will host Tulare Union on Tuesday.

Tulare Western 3, Golden West 1: The Mustangs defeated the Trailblazers, 25-10, 26-24, 10-25, 25-21.

Mason Jenkins led Tulare Western (1-1) with 10 kills. Meghan Flora had five blocks and three kills for the Mustangs. Jocelyn Benson had a team-high nine aces for Tulare Western, and Cristol Loza had seven aces.

Clovis 3, El Diamante 0: The Miners fell to the Cougars 25-15, 25-16, 25-20 in a nonleague match. Ashley Phillips led El Diamante (1-1) with 10 kills and three blocks, Kirsti Dunckel had 11 digs and Nicole Phillips had five kills.

Exeter 3, Reedley 0: Olivia Harden had seven aces, six kills, six digs and one block to help lead the Monarchs (4-5) to a win over the Pirates, 25-21, 25-17, 25-15.

Mckinley Kavadas added 15 digs and three kills.

Woodlake 3, Immanuel 0: KiAnna Cunningham recorded 15 kills and the Tigers beat the Eagles in a nonleague match. Quinn Keller added six kills for Woodlake (2-0), Hannah Sherwood finished with 20 assists and Carissa Castillo had 15 digs.

Girls Tennis

Redwood 9, Hanford 0: The Rangers opened the 2014 West Yosemite League season with a sweep against the Bullpups.

Golden West 6, Mt. Whitney 3: The Trailblazers swept the doubles matches to defeat the Pioneers in a WYL match.

Girls Golf

Tulare Western 301, Tulare Union 315, Golden West 358: The Mustangs swept a nonleague match on the back nine of the Tulare Golf Course. Golden West’s Mercedes Esquibel led all golfers with a 49. Madison McCarthy paced Tulare Western (3-1) with a 51. Chelsea Correa turned in a 55 for Tulare Union (2-2).

JC Men’s Soccer

COS 1, Butte 0: Freddy Vazquez scored on an assist from Armando Mora and the Giants improved to 2-0. The Giants opened with an 8-0 win over Ohlone on Friday.
