Sacred Heart announces new field hockey coach

By

Eleanor Cowley Mitchell has been named the new field hockey coach at Sacred Heart Academy, the school announced Monday.

Mitchell replaces Liz Lewis, who stepped down in October after posting a 258-21-7 record and winning five state championships in 11 seasons.

Mitchell is a 2004 graduate of Sacred Heart and went on to play at Davidson College, where she was the team captain as a junior and senior. She coached in the Futures National Program in Charlotte, N.C., from 2006-08 before joining the Sacred Heart staff in 2008.

“She is a tremendous leader and teacher of the game,” Sacred Heart athletic director Donna Moir said. “We could not ask for a better coach or role model for our student-athletes.”
