Elisha Justice, Kentucky’s 2010 Mr. Basketball at Shelby Valley, has been named the boys’ basketball coach at June Buchanan.

Justice played two seasons at the University of Louisville before transferring to Pikeville, where he played his final two seasons.

“I have been involved in the game my entire life, and I have been fortunate to have learned under some great coaches,” Justice said in a news release. “I want the opportunity to help these young men grow and improve just like I was given the chance by others.”

Located in Pippa Passes in Knott County, June Buchanan finished 9-20 last season. The Crusaders won the 14th Region title in 2007.

John Blake, quarterback for Atherton from 1952-55, will conduct the opening coin toss when the Rebels host North Oldham at 7:30 p.m. today.

Blake’s teammates at Atherton included former University of Louisville and NBA player Charles Tyra and All-State football player J. Frank Yeager.

“No one really taught me how to play football until I went to high school,” Blake said. “It was just something you grew up doing with the boys in the neighborhood.”
