As a key player for Pittsford Sutherland’s volleyball and basketball state championship squads in 2013-14, Santita Ebangwese had quite a junior year. The start to her senior season this fall hasn’t been too shabby, either.
The 6-foot-2 middle blocker helped lead the Knights to a third straight Section V Class A volleyball title on Saturday and Wednesday she was one of 24 girls nationwide named first-team All-American and to the ninth annual Under Armour All-American game.
The showcase event, which includes a skills competition and match, is Dec. 18-21 in Oklahoma City. Ebangwese, who has earned a scholarship to Syracuse University, is following in the footsteps of former teammate, two-time Gatorade State Player of the Year, hitter Luisa Schirmer. She is a freshman at Ohio State.
Ebangwese’s height, strength, long arms and athletic ability make her a force. She has 109 blocks, 293 kills and a hitting percentage of .366. The defending state champion Knights (19-1) will play in the Class A state tournament quarterfinals at 2 p.m. Saturday against the Section VI champion Williamsville East.
