In a non-division game, Division IV’s Chandler Seton Catholic (7-1) rolled up 42 first-half points and cruised to a 55-8 win over host Division III’s Gilbert Higley.
Antonio Campanella scored three rushing touchdowns and Matt Haggerty caught three receiving touchdowns. One of his three went for a touchdown.
“We just had our schemes down in this game,” Haggerty said. ”We really got our offense going and we’ll need to as we go into the playoffs.”
Seton got it going early, scoring on their first series in just six plays with quarterback David Gesicki finding Haggerty for a 15-yard receiving touchdown and a 6-0 lead when the kick by Dan Garlid was blocked with 9:20 left in the first quarter. Haggerty then scored on a 31-yard pass play on Seton’s next series, making the score 13-0 after Garlid’s kick with 5:42 left in the first quarter.
Campanella then scored on an eight-yard run followed by a one-yard plunge by Conrad Sullivan, making the score 27-0 with 8:48 to go in the second quarter. Two plays later, Haggerty picked off a Mathias Young pass on the Higley 20-yard line, putting Seton on top 34-0 just 47 seconds later.
Campanella then scored the second of his three touchdowns on an 11-yard run and the conversion got the non-stop clock running with the score 42-0 and 2:32 left in the second quarter.
“The big boys up front really did it for us,” Campanella said.
He then added a nine-yard run for a 55-0 lead after Kaleb Krick caught a Gesicki 15-yard pass for another touchdown.
Higley (3-5) finally got on the scoreboard when Cole Cook scored on a 25-yard run with 2:13 left in the game. The converson made the final 55-8.
Gesicki finished the game 18 of 22 for 242 yards and three touchdowns. Haggerty led Seton with 124 yards receving on seven receptions.
