SHELBY, N.C. – With a trip of a state championship on the line, Shelby hosted the Mt. Pleasant Tigers in the 2A Regional Final on Friday. Shelby was looking to capture its sixth state title while Mt. Pleasant was looking to win its first championship since 2007.

Shelby would strike first as Rj George scrambled nine-yards for 7-0 lead as the fourth quarter came to an end.

On the very next play Austin Parker hit Robert Johns for a 42-yard touchdown catch to tie it up 7-7. After a Richard Wright nailed a 46-yarder to give the Golden Lions a 10-7 lead.

After forcing a punt, Rj George connects with Xavier Brooks for an 84-yard touchdown giving Shelby a 17-7 lead at the half.

Following a 37-yard field goal for the Tigers, Mt. Pleasant quarterback Austin Parker found Robert Johns for a 29-yard touchdown pass.

The game was tied at 17 when Rj George would run it on a quarterback keeper to give the Golden Lions a 24-17 lead with just under five to play.

Shelby will take on Clinton for the 2A State Championship on December 13 at Wake Forest University.
