Siegel’s girls tennis team extended its region title to 10 straight seasons on Wednesday with a 4-0 win over host Columbia.
All 10 titles won by the 11th-year school have been by 4-0. The Lady Stars have reached the state tournament five times, including the past three consecutive.
Siegel, which won the District 7-AAA title, will play May 15 at Old Fort Park in a Class AAA sectional. All sectional winners advance to the BlueCross Spring Fling.
“I almost think you have to to start over every year,” Siegel coach Jeff Martin said. “You have to work itself out. You don’t set out with the goal of winning your 10th straight. You have to set a realistic goal. We’ve been very fortunate.”
Siegel senior Marissa Kovach, a Bellarmine signee, won 6-2, 6-4 at No. 1 singles. Lexie Greene won 6-0, 6-1 at No. 3 singles. Katie White won 6-0, 6-0 at No. 4 singles. And Haley Nance won 6-2, 6-0 at No. 5 singles. Ragen White was leading 6-3, 6-5 when her match was retired because the Lady Stars had already clinched the victory.
Siegel’s boys play at Shelbyville today in its Region 4-AAA championship.
