Smoky Hill High School had two weeks to prepare for their “zero week” contest against Overland.
As you might expect it didn’t go well. The Buffaloes lost 50-15.
New interim head coach Preston Davis took over the team 1 day before fall practice began. He also had to slap a coaching staff together in that 24 hour window. This, after the school decided to make a change because previous head coach, Justin Hoffman, was interested in a job outside of Smoky Hill.
A brand new coaching staff with a brand new scheme and the team had two weeks to learn it. They were set up for a tough experience. Despite the 50-15 loss the new coaches were proud of their teams effort, particularly Davis. He delivered this emotional speech after Saturday’s loss.
