Middletown North seems to have a knack for winning tight games, and the Lions did so again on Wednesday.
Elizabeth Dorsa singled to lead off the second, moved to second on a throwing error and scored on a single off the bat of Payleigh Behan to give the Lions (5-1, 4-0) the only lead they needed, and they went on to get by Class A North foe Colts Neck, 3-0.
In the fifth, Middletown North added two runs when Quinn Thornton led off with a single, before winning pitcher Riley Kernan also singled and Dorsa drove in both runners with her second single of the contest.
Kernan allowed the Cougars (2-3, 2-2) just two singles, struck out nine and walked three for the victory in the circle.
