Grade: Senior
Position: RHP/OF
Height: 6-foot-2
Weight: 210 pounds

Athletic achievement: He compiled a 4-1 record and a 0.35 ERA, leading the Tigers to a 13-10 record this past season. Holmes recorded 82 strikeouts against just 10 walks in 40 innings pitched and also batted. .305 with a .494 on-base percentage. A 2013 Under Armour All-American and a 2013 Perfect Game All-American, he is ranked No. 5 in the nation in the class of 2014 by both Perfect Game USA and

Academic excellence: Holmes has maintained a 3.36 GPA.

Exemplary character: A member of the National Honor Society, he has volunteered locally as a youth baseball coach.


“In my 25 years of coaching, have only seen one other high school pitcher be as dominant as Grant Holmes and that was Justin Verlander,” said Tim Christy, head coach at Myrtle Beach. “Holmes carries himself with class and has a demeanor that is not polluted with arrogance and self-promotion. If there is a better player in our state, I don’t know who it would be.”

THE FUTURE: Holmes has signed with Florida, but is projected as an early round selection in next month’s Major League Baseball First-Year Player Draft.
