By

CONCORD, N.C. — The South Point High School Red Raiders avenged last season’s playoff loss at Concord Friday, handing the Spiders a 37-21 loss.

The Red Raiders got the scoring started in the first quarter when Tanner Muse scored from 18 yards out, giving South Point a 7-0 lead. Concord attempted to respond, but were stopped on fourth down early in the second quarter. South Point capitalized on the ensuing drive when Ryland Etherton scored, giving the Red Raiders a 14-0 lead.

Rocky Reid got the Spiders on the board midway through the second, bringing Concord within seven points. South Point’s Jaquan Brooks responded in a big way, rushing 58 yards for another South Point score. The Red Raiders were dominant in the first half, rushing for 219 yards against the Spiders’ defense.

After forcing a Concord punt on the opening possession of the second half, Brooks found pay dirt again, rumbling 82 yards to put South Point ahead 28-7. Concord was never able to get back into contention before eventually falling 37-21.

South Point will host East Rowan next Friday in the third round of the playoffs.
