Sophomore Diamond Bell’s last-second layup gave Southern a 56-54 girls’ basketball victory over visiting Fern Creek on Friday night.

Senior Makaila Hilliard led the Trojans (4-9) with 26 points. Sophomore Shelbi Knauer had 20 to pace the Tigers (5-9).

Keana Richardson and Javonna Layfield posted double-doubles as the Bruins (13-1), No. 10 in The Courier-Journal’s Litkenhous Ratings, beat the host Wildcats (9-5) for their 11th straight victory. Richardson had 18 points and 11 rebounds, and Layfield had 16 points, 13 rebounds and eight steals. * Ballard 73, Waggener 34:
