The Southwood Lady Cowboys sprinted out to a commanding 36-12 lead by halftime and cruised from there to keep their perfect record in District 1-5A intact with a 56-29 victory over the Byrd Lady Jackets Tuesday night at Southwood High School.
Chelsea Tieuel continued her hot shooting, scoring a game-high 19 points as Southwood improved to 18-7 overall and a flawless 5-0 in district play. Michelle Parker added 17 for the Lady Cowboys.
Chelsey Walker scored six points to lead Byrd as it fell to 8-19 and 1-4.
Airline 56, Haughton 49: At Airline, the Lady Vikings turned up the pressure in the fourth quarter and rallied to get a big District 1-5A win over the Lady Bucs.
Trailing by four entering the final period, Airline used its press to force several turnovers and finally got Haughton into a must-foul situation, where the Lady Vikings converted 14 free throws down the stretch to take the victory. Tasha Shiflett led Airline (14-10, 4-1 district) with 17 points, while Kei McCoy fired in 13 and Jasmyne Carswell added 10 for the Lady Vikings.
Mikayla Barber scored 17 points to lead the Lady Bucs (19-8, 3-2), and Mattie McCoy added 13.
Fair Park 69, Woodlawn 59: At Woodlawn, the Lady Indians pulled away in the second half, thanks to a strong effort on the boards, to beat the Lady Knights in District 1-4A action.
Brittney Myles grabbed a season-high 23 rebounds to go with 13 points, while Dominique Johnson led Fair Park (13-9, 5-0 district) with 22 points in addition to 11 rebounds. Savannah Thomas fired in 16 points for the Lady Indians.
Amber Cook scored a game-high 23 points, while Haggar Caldwell and Brittany Kendrick dropped in 11 apiece and Rachel Elzie added 10 for Woodlawn (7-8, 2-3).
Loyola 68, Northwood 25: At Northwood, the Lady Flyers maintained their perfect mark in District 1-4A, setting up a showdown Friday with Fair Park after cruising past the Lady Falcons.
Amber Smith led all scorers with 21 points as Loyola improved to 16-9 and 5-0 in district. Amy Smith dropped in 12 points and Alex Williams added 11 for the Lady Flyers.
Huntington 55, Benton 45: At Huntington, Caitlin Jenkins scored a game-high 25 points to lead the Lady Raiders and Tanisha Briggs fired in 16 points.
Gabby Jackson led Benton with 17 points and Brandy Harris added 12 as the Lady Tigers fell to 17-9 and 3-2.
Green Oaks 61, Evangel 22: At Green Oaks, the Lady Giants held the Lady Eagles to single digits in scoring in every period as they coasted to the District 1-3A victory.
Princess Davis led four players in doubles figures with 16 points as Green Oaks maintained the lead in district play with a 20-4 overall record and perfect 6-0 district mark. Jalishia Brown scored 12 points, while Janey Jones and Troynecia Wilson added 10 each in the win.
Bossier 56, North Webster 25: At North Webster, the Lady Kats’ Necka Wynn led the way with 10 points as it improved to 7-16 and 2-4 in District 1-3A.
North Caddo 69, Lakeside 22: At North Caddo, the top-ranked Lady Rebels got a game-high 14 points from Jasmine Thomas while Ledetriha Sheppard pumped in 13.
