The St. Thomas Aquinas High School boys basketball team is set to make the program’s second Ohio High School Athletic Association state tournament appearance when the Knights (17-11) play Canal Winchester Harvest Prep (26-1) in a Division IV state semifinal contest on Thursday at Ohio State’s Value City Arena.

One of the surprise teams in this year’s state tournament field, STA is unranked in the final Associated Press state media poll. The Knights are averaging 63.4 points per game.

STA’s offensive attack is led by the scoring trio of senior Austin Hill, junior Anthony Moeglin and sophomore Jacob Paul. Hill, a 6-foot-3 forward, is averaging 17.1 points per game. Moeglin, a 6-foot guard, is averaging 11.5 points per contest. Paul, a 5-foot-9 guard, is averaging 10.9 points per game.

STA head coach Matt Hackenberg owns a 33-22 record in his two seasons at the helm of the school’s boys basketball program.

The program’s lone other state tournament appearance came in 1975.

Hackenberg participated in a teleconference with state media members on Monday. Watch the above video to see what he had to say about his team and its season.

Tipoff for the state semifinal is set for 5:15 p.m.
