Class AA girls
Ossining 69, Horseheads 52: At Vestal, a cold spell late in the first half cost Horseheads as the Blue Raiders were outscored 26-7 in the second quarter, losing to Ossining in the state quarterfinals.
Horseheads (16-4) outscored the Pride 36-33 in the second half but could not overcome the earlier slump. Ossining (22-2) used a 10-0 run in the last 2 minutes, 16 seconds before halftime to take a 20-point lead at 36-16.
Senior Jen LaViola and junior Amanda Schiefen paced the Blue Raiders with 14 points each. Senior Ellie Leszyk chipped in with 11 points and three steals.
Leszyk and Schiefen also pulled down six rebounds apiece, and LaViola dished off six assists.
Class C boys
Waterville 61, Notre Dame 55: At Syracuse, Zach Sawyer scored six points in the final 1 minute, 9 seconds after Notre Dame’s Nate Niles hit a 3-pointer to bring the Crusaders within three and Waterville held on at Onondaga Community College in a state quarterfinal.
The Crusaders finished with a 20-2 record and for the second time in three years had their season end against a Section 3 team in the quarterfinals. Two years ago it was Cooperstown that beat the Crusaders, 63-49, at Le Moyne College.
Tom Agan and Darius Garvin had 16 points each to lead Notre Dame, which came in ranked second in Class C by the New York State Sportswriters Association. Jonas McCaig had nine points and Niles scored eight.
Class D girls
Hamilton 52, Franklin 35: At Onondaga Community College, Lauren Weeks scored 16 points and Jess Welsh added 14 as Section 3 champion Hamilton ended Franklin’s season in the state quarterfinals.
Hamilton trailed 9-8 after one quarter before going on a 17-7 surge in the second quarter to grab a 25-16 halftime lead. Hamilton led 36-27 after three quarters.
Jordan Beers closed her prolific high school career with 19 points for Franklin (20-1). Marisa Cawley added 15 points.
Class D boys
New York Mills 55, Davenport 38: At Onondaga CC, New York Mills of Section 3 built a 34-9 halftime lead in a victory over Davenport in the state quarterfinals.
Nick Comenale led New York Mills (21-1) with 20 points. Zach Vennaro had 12 points.
Matt Finne scored 12 points for Davenport (20-2). Kyle Moorby had 10 points.
Ithaca High reaches state hockey final
At Utica, Jacob Grippin and Sunghyun Won scored two goals apiece and Brandon Kasel made 28 saves as the Ithaca High boys hockey team defeated Scarsdale, 6-4, in the state Division I semifinals Saturday morning at the Memorial Auditorium.
Nate Walker and Eli Gordon also scored for the sixth-ranked Little Red (12-9-1), which will play Massena, which beat Fairport, 2-1 in overtime, at 12:30 p.m. today for the state championship.
Ithaca is seeking its sixth state championship and first since 2007.
