The quest for state titles begins 10 a.m. today for 40 Section 4 wrestlers at the New York State Public High School Athletic Association championships at the Times Union Center in Albany.

State championships are up for grabs in 15 weight classes in both Division I and II classifications. Today’s wrestling will feature preliminary and quarterfinal matches as well as a round of consolation matches.

On Saturday, wrestling resumes at 10 a.m. with semifinal matches. Consolation finals will take place beginning at 2, with the championship finals scheduled for 6:30 p.m.

Last year, Windsor’s Matt Abbott, Unatego’s Kevin Thayer and Lansing’s William Koll all won Division II state titles. Abbott won the 285-pound title, Thayer the 152 crown and Koll the 126 title.

Abbott and Thayer have graduated, while Koll is seeking a third state title. The senior is the top seed at Division II 132.

Other No. 1 seeds from Section 4, all in Division II, are Deposit/Hancock’s Dean Raymond (99), Norwich’s Frank Garcia (152), Greene’s Christian Dietrich (182) and Waverly’s Ryan Wolcott (220).
