Stratford advances six wrestlers to state

SHAWANO – Six Stratford wrestlers advanced to the WIAA state meet, led by Dondrick Tackes, who won the 195-pound title during the Bonduel individual sectional Saturday.

Edgar junior Devin Lemanski won the title at 145 pounds, a year after winning a state title at 126.

Lemanski’s teammates Connor Handrick (160) and Wesley Dittman (195) finished second and third at their respective weights to earn a state trip, as well, as did Spencer’s Trevor Ackman, who was third at 145 pounds.

Division 1 Preble sectional

GREEN BAY – Wisconsin Rapids’ Matrix Jisko (106), Patrick Spray (113) and Cody Abel (182) all won their weight classes.

The Raiders’ Beau Thompson (220) also earned a trip to the state tournament with a second-place performance.

Divison 2 Seymour sectional

SEYMOUR – Nekoosa/Port Edwards’ Clay Liebert (113), Dylan Bauer (220) and Tristan Holden (285) all moved on to the state meet, after the program had just one qualifier last season.

Liebert finished second at 113 pounds, after just missing a state-berth last year with a fourth-place finish at sectionals.

Jack Lawlis (220) of Almond-Bancroft/Pacelli also qualified for state.

AMERY – Robert Csukkker of Stanley-Boyd/Owen-Withee/Thorp won the title at 132, and teammate Ronny Ponick (160) also earned a state berth.

Neillsville/Granton/Loyal and Abbotsford/Colby also had a pair of state qualifiers.

ADAMS – Adams-Friendship Trenton McManus (106) won his weight class to earn his second straight state trip.

GNC meet

ANTIGO – Heidi Zorn was the top individual, and teammate Amanda Byrum was second as Stevens Point Area Senior High won the Large Division, and overall conference title.

Zorn won the beam, was second on the floor, third in the bars and fourth on the vault. She finished with an overall score of 35.35, just ahead of Byrum (34.625).

SPASH’s Kali Schierl won the vault.

Mosinee won the Small Division team title.

EAU CLAIRE – The Tigers wrapped up their regular-season schedule with the nonconference victory.

Marshfield finished the season with a 16-6 mark .

Pacelli 56, Bonduel 44

STEVENS POINT – The Cardinals finished the regular season with their 16th straight victory.

OWEN – Hayley Bunnell had 18 points to lead the Blackhawks, who held Augusta to 10 points in the second half on the way to their third win this week.

Bailey Karaba and Stephany Heggemeier added 17 and 15 points, respectively.
