Swain County volleyball retired three numbers earlier this week.

The former players honored were Cayla Crawley (No. 23), Meagan Pederson (No. 10) and Anna Shields (No. 15).

Shields was formerly the coach at Franklin and compiled a 281-95 record before resigning in 2012. Crawley was the 2008 Citizen-Times All-WNC Player of the Year on the heels of a NCHSAA 1-A championship run. Pederson was the 2004 Smoky Mountain Conference Player of the Year.

Retiring coach Sonya Blankenship and the Maroon Devils (17-5) are the No. 2 seed out of the SMC and host Chatham Central (3-17) in Saturday’s start to the NCHSAA 1-A playoffs. Match time is 3 p.m. in Bryson City.

Blankenship, who has a career record of 348-126, is stepping down at the end of this season to focus more on a job with Swain County Schools central office.
