The Hunterdon Central boys and girls swimming teams swept the Hunterdon/Warren/Sussex Championships on Saturday, as both teams have won the title every year the meet’s been held, the boys since 2007 and the girls since 2001.
Jess Ambrose and Holly Christensen each won two events for the Central girls, as Ambrose took first in the 200-yard freestyle (2:01.01) and 100-yard breaststroke (1:08.16) while Christensen won the 50-yard freestyle (24.06) and 100-yard freestyle (53.54).
The Red Devils also captured first-place finshes in the 200-yard freestyle relay, as Megan Dodge, Ana White, Kristin Peterson, and Christensen finished in 1:40.98, and the 400-yard freestyle, as Peterson, White, Maria Russo, and Ambrose completed in 3:45.12.
Julia Herman, Ambrose, Russo, and Christensen also paced Central to a tie for first-place in the 200-yard medley relay, as they finished in 1:52.49 to tie with Pope John.
On the boys side, Central captured its seventh consecutive title despite winning only two events – the 200-yard medley relay in which Chandler Amato, Chris Jameson, Christian Berardo, Alex Sutera finished in 1:45.28 and Berardo’s finish in the 100-yard butterfly.
North Hunterdon’s Robert Spichiger was the boys Most Valuable Swimmer, as he won the 500-yard freestyle (4:42.84) while placing second in the 200-yard individual medley (1:59.03).
