Rocky River High School opened its doors in 2010 and in their inaugural season the football team went 0-10. That season seems to be a distant memory. In just three short seasons in Mint Hill, head football coach Jason Fowler has led the Ravens to three consecutive winning seasons, and most recently a conference title in 2013.
The Ravens host the Richmond Raiders in the first game of the 2014 season. They have a little bit of sour taste in their mouth from last year’s defeat, which came in the hands of a Raider defense that held coach Fowler’s squad to three scoreless quarters. The Raiders won that game 37-13.
After blood, sweat, and tears painted Rocky River’s practice fields this summer, the Ravens are looking for revenge.
The Ravens welcome back 13 starters from last year’s team, led by cornerback Jaire Alexander. Jaire is a three-star rated cornerback according to 247sports.com. He has already committed to play for South Carolina and head coach Steve Spurrier beginning in 2015.
The quarterback of the Raven offense is Naiil Ramadan. Nail split snaps last season, and is ready to lead this team. Coach Fowler likes his growth in the offense and his maturity. “He is so much more comfortable in the offense, making checks, and reading a defense.”
When the pressure mounts, the team has Elijah Jett. Jett is coming off a junior campaign of 705 yards and seven touchdowns as he split carries with two other players.
The Ravens want to get Elijah the ball “At least 25 times a game”.
Coach Fowler has never beaten his biggest rival, Independence. The season is taken one game at a time, but it would be safe to assume when Halloween rolls around, Coach Fowler will be hoping for an extra special treat.
