Weight: 185 pounds
Athletic achievement: He won the 110-meter high hurdles with a time of 13.63 seconds and the 300-meter intermediate hurdles in 36.34 at the Class 4A state meet this spring, leading the Buffaloes to a second-place finish as a team. Sheffield’s gold-medal clockings both ranked among the nation’s top five prep performances in 2014 at the time of his selection.
Academic excellence: Sheffield has maintained a B average.
Exemplary character: Also a football standout and a devoted member of his church community, Sheffield assists local elderly folks with yard work and has volunteered on behalf of a food bank for the needy.
“What I love about him even more than his athleticism is his efficiency,” said Thurgood Marshall head coach Lloyd Banks. “He’s a stickler about his craft. He wants to be perfect and he has a great attention to detail. He’s really a coach’s dream.”
THE FUTURE: Sheffield will be a senior this fall.
