THE WINNER: Desiree Freier

THE BASICS

School: Justin (Texas) Northwest
Grade: Senior
Event: Pole vault
Height: 5-foot

Athletic achievement: She soared 14 feet, 3.25 inches at the Texas Relays to break the national prep record in the pole vault this spring. Freier also won her third straight Class 5A state title with a clearance of 13-6, and finished first at both the New Balance Indoor and New Balance Outdoor Nationals in 2014.

Academic excellence: Freier has maintained a 3.54 GPA.

Exemplary character: She has volunteered locally on behalf of the Northwest Big Event, throughout which students provide a variety of community services to five area communities.  

THE PRAISE

“Desiree has earned everything she has received, and there’s been no one better in the entire nation,” said Justin Northwest head coach George Lutkenhaus. “She’s an extremely motivated and hard-working athlete.”

THE FUTURE: Freier has signed with Arkansas.
