THE WINNER: Randi Rupp
School: Barbers Hill (Mont Belvieu, Texas)
Athletic achievement: She posted a 27-1 record in the circle along with a 0.45 ERA this past season, leading the Eagles (32-1) to the Class 4A state semifinals. Rupp struck out 303 batters and walked just 27 in 169.2 innings pitched. She allowed 66 hits, holding opponents to a .114 batting average. At the plate, the three-time District MVP batted .398 with four home runs, 21 RBI and a .636 slugging percentage.
Academic excellence: Rupp has maintained an A average.
Exemplary character: She has volunteered locally in her church’s nursery, at an eldercare facility and at a food bank and homeless shelter.
“Randi Rupp is an outstanding player,” said Chad Kimberling, head coach of New Caney. “In the circle, she was physically dominant. Her height, stature and composure in all situations made her extremely intimidating to a lot of teams.”
THE FUTURE: Rupp has signed with Texas State.
