Umpire, this is not a strike.
Look, Little League umpires aren’t perfect. Heck, there’s a reason why they aren’t college or professional umpires, and while some may choose to officiate at the youth level for philosophical reasons (and rightfully so), many others aren’t quite as skilled.
That shouldn’t be the case at the Little League World Series. This is the premier competition for youth baseball. Heck, it’s the premier competition for youth sports writ large. Umpires should be able to be a little more consistent with the strike zones than this.
Perhaps this pitch during the Venezuela-Puerto Rico game was an aberration. We can all hope.
