Tom's Pick: ACGC/Foley should be a real good dual

It’s a match-up for bragging rights and, though it’s not for a lot else, it should be entertaining.

Two of the best wrestling programs in the state face each other at 7:30 p.m. Tuesday at Foley High School when Atwater-Cosmos-Grove City wrestles the host Falcons.

ACGC is ranked second in the state in Class A; Foley is No. 1 in 2A.

The two certainly have seen enough of each other. The ACGC Falcons are 9-0 and coming off a first-place finish last weekend at the Tom Keating Memorial Tournament in Foley.

It’s an individual bracket tournament and Foley, which took third, didn’t have a full lineup.

ACGC has five state-ranked wrestlers in Class A, according to The Guillotine, a state-wide amateur wrestling media entity, including: Larry Bomstad (145), Logan Peterson (152) and Lucas Damm (285).

Foley was 10-0 going into Saturday’s Kiffmeyer Duals.

The Foley Falcons have five state-ranked wrestlers, including Tyler Funk (No. 3 at 126), Carter Nielsen (No. 3 at 145), Luke Kelvington (No. 8 at 170), Tyler Midas (No. 2 at 195) and Mitch Struffert (No. 3 at 285).

Foley is in the midst of the toughest part of its schedule. Wrestling a fine ACGC program is certainly a big part of that.

The hope for the folks in Foley is that facing all this top-level talent now will have the Falcons ready for the state tournament Feb. 27-March 1 at the Xcel Energy Center in St. Paul.
