It’s official: Chase Jeter is a Duke Blue Devil.
Legendary coach Mike Krzyzewski got the first official member of his 2015 recruiting class on Wednesday when Jeter, a 6-foot-11 force of nature for Las Vegas power Bishop Gorman, signed on to spend at least one season in Durham. Jeter is the number 8 overall recruit in 247 Sports’ composite rankings, and narrowly ranks behind only Cheick Diallo and Ivan Rabb among power forwards in the Class of 2015.
Jeter is the first half of a major two-step that the Blue Devils anticipate enjoying on the first day of the Early Signing Period. Luke Kennard, a shooting guard crafted directly out of the classic Duke mold, signed on at a very Duke-friendly 6:30 p.m. signing ceremony at Franklin High School in Ohio.
As for why Jeter picked Duke, he said that his decision came down to the atmosphere in Cameron Indoor Arena and around the North Carolina school’s campus.
“I just liked the feel of the environment,” Jeter said after announcing his commitment on an ESPNU telecast in August. “Cameron Indoor is a great place, a great basketball environment and I just felt like it was the right place for me.”
Now we know that Jeter will get his chance to play on that famed court come next fall.
