The Brecksville-Broadview Heights High School football team will have a new look this fall, as the Bees return only five varsity letterwinners from the 2013 squad that posted a 10-2 overall record and a perfect 6-0 mark in Southwestern Conference play.
Senior Joe Dimitrijevs and juniors Danny Shirilla and Tyler Tupa will serve as the team’s captains.
“Each brings (his) own set of individual characteristics, but as a whole, their work ethic is second to none and they will hold the players on our team accountable,” sixth-year head coach Jason Black said of the trio.
Dimitrijevs, a 5-foot-10, 170-pound linebacker, tallied 32 tackles last season. Shirilla, a 6-foot, 145-pound returning defensive starter in the secondary, will serve as the team’s starting quarterback. Tupa, a 6-1, 195-pound returning starter at wide receiver and defensive back, will undoubtedly be Shirilla’s top target, after tallying 56 receptions last season.
The Bees will operate a pro-style offense and a 4-2-5 defensive scheme.
BBHHS is entering its final season of competition in the SWC before joining the Suburban League at the start of the 2015-16 school year.
The Bees will open the 2014 season with a road game against Holy Name at North Royalton on Aug. 29.
