Jeremy’s Top Five on the Mat – Week 2

St Eds

#1. St. Edward – The Eagles finished seventh this past weekend at the prestigious Ironman Tournament. Leading the way for the Eagles was Parker Knapp (220) who took third, Hunter Ladnier (132) took fourth and Alan Hart (113) took fifth.

Friday, December 19th – St. Edward heads to St. Ignatius for a dual meet at 7:30 p.m.

 

Elyria

#2. Elyria – The Pioneers showed why they deserved to be moved up in the rankings this week with an eighth place team finish at the Ironman Tournament. Elyria was the third highest ranked team from Ohio, just behind seventh placed St. Edward and the champions St. Paris Graham. Kevin Vough (285) continued his dominance, as he pinned Tate Orndorff (University) in the second period to become the only champion from Northeast Ohio.

Saturday, December 20th – Elyria’s Red Team will be hosting Midview in a dual meet at 7p.m

 

Perry Massillon

#3. Massillon Perry – The Panthers were also in action this weekend at the Ironman Tournament and finished 12th as a team. The Panthers had a full lineup of 14 wrestlers heading into the tournament, but only two would make it to the podium.  Jose Rodriguez (126) won his finals match taking fifth and Jake Newhouse (120) took eighth.

Thursday, December 18th – Massillon Perry will be hosting GlenOak in a dual meet at 7 p.m.

 

Brecksville

#4. Brecksville – The Bees finished 14th at the Ironman Tournament over the weekend led by senior Austin Assad (126). Assad finished third to become a three-time Ironman placer, with a 2-1 victory over Augusten Solomon (Franklin Regional PA).

Thursday, December 18th – Brecksville will be heading to Olmsted Falls for a tri-meet again against North Olmsted and Olmsted Falls at 6 p.m.

 

Wadsworth HS

#5. Wadsworth – Wadsworth finished 29th at the Ironman Tournament with a total of 12 wrestlers. It wasn’t the best performance for the Grizzlies, as they had zero wrestlers stand on the podium. Noah Baughman (113) went 2-2, losing a couple of close matches, and Tim Knipl (182) went 4-2.

Thursday, December 18th – Grizzlies will head to Highland for a Suburban Conference tri-meet against Revere and Highland.

Notable mentions in no specific order- Avon, Brunswick, and Perrysburg.
