The Union Catholic boys and girls track teams swept the Union County Championships, marking the fourth straight year the boys have won and the first ever title for the girls team, after they both swept the Union County Relays earlier this month.

Taylor McLaughlin set a meet record in the 400 in 49.40 and tied a meet record in the 55-meter hurdles, finishing in 7.58 while Jordan Jimerson set a meet record in the 55-meter dash with a time of 6.50 for the Viking boys, who finished in first by a wide margin with 83 team points.

Other first place finishers for the Union Catholic boys included Andrew Ghizzone taking first in the 1,600 (4:28.91) and Sean Brennan, who won the shot put (49-11).

The girls meet came down to the 4×400 relay, with the Vikings trailing Union 49-48. Trailing Union by seven seconds, Sydnee McLaughlin, who had already set a meet record in the 55-meter hurdles with a time of 8.16, raced the Vikings to the win with a split of 54.4, putting the Vikings ahead of Union 58-57 for the first championship in team history.

Jordan Coverson, Imani Beauliere, and Caroline Sullivan and preceded McLaughin in the 4×400 for Union Catholic, which finished in 4:00.68 for a meet record.

Sydney McLaughlin also placed first in two individual events, setting meet records in both – the 400 (56.47 and the 55-meter hurdles (8.16).

Rahway’s boys came in second with 46 points, as Jordan Scott, Thorne Roberts, Deshawne Bunion, and Harlan Clarke set a meet record in the 4×400 with a 3:25.39 time.

Clarke also won the 800, finishing in 1:59.08.
