The Union Catholic High School boys track team retained its upper hand on traditional power Christian Brothers, winning the NJSIAA Non-Public A Relays by four points Sunday at the Bennett Center.
The Vikings won four events and tallied 68 points, four more than CBA, continuing a trend that started last year. It came down to the 4×400, and Union Catholic’s unit of Jordan Jimerson, Obafemi Animashaun, Kenny Evely and Taylor McLaughlin sealed the deal with a winning time of 3:26.50.
Union Catholic also won the 4×200 as Jimerson, Animashaun, McLaughlin and Joe Marshall clocked 1:31.61. In the sprint medley, Andrew Ghizzone’s 1:56 anchor 800 capped the winning 3:34.90 effort begun by Animashaun, Jimerson and Steve Franco. In the shuttle hurdles, Animashaun, Ghizzone, McLaughlin and Mike Herron broke the tape in 30.35.
Union Catholic’s girls also earned two gold medals in Non-Public A. Imani Beauliere, Sydney McLaughlin, Joy Clarke, and Jordan Coverson won the 4×200 in 1:46.46. Beauliere, Coverson, Caroline Sullivan and Sydney McLaughlin won the 4×400 in 4:00.68.
In Non-Public B girls competition, Gill St. Bernard’s won two events. Alexandria Benoit, Ludi Zhu, Armani Comick, and Dana Klein took the sprint medley in 4:24.35. In the distance medley, Benoit, Klein, Zhu and Sahara Ensley struck gold in 12:52.33.
Pingry’s girls placed first in the 4×800 as Sydney Streicher, Rachel Wu, Sidney Lieberman, and Emma Palmer crossed in 10:44.76.
