Trinity hoops ranked No. 40 in nation, headed to City of Palms

Ranked No. 1 in Kentucky, the Trinity High School basketball team will get to see how it stands on a national level this week.

The Shamrocks (4-0) are among 17 teams entered in the prestigious Culligan City of Palms Classic set for Thursday-Tuesday at Bishop Verot High School in Fort Myers, Fla.

Eight teams are ranked among the nation’s top 50 by USA Today, led by No. 1 Montverde (Fla.). The Eagles are searching for their third straight City of Palms title.

Other top-50 teams in the field are No. 2 High Point (N.C.) Wesleyan Christian, No. 6 Santa Ana (Calif) Mater Dei, No. 10 Marietta (Ga.) Wheeler, No. 18 Chatsworth (Calif.) Sierra Canyon, No. 34 Huber Heights (Ohio) Wayne, No. 40 Trinity and No. 43 Fairfax (Va.) Paul VI.

Trinity will open play at 4 p.m. Thursday against Sierra Canyon, which is led by junior Devearl Ramsey. He is ranked among the top point guards in the nation in the Class of 2016.

The City of Palms championship game is set for 8:45 p.m. Tuesday.
