Jerry Trotta’s single with the bases loaded and one out in the bottom of the seventh inning scored pinch-runner Patric Donohue and gave Mater Dei a 4-3 win over Point Pleasant Beach on Monday in a Shore Conference Class B Central game.
The Seraphs (2-2, 2-1) had loaded the bases on three walks.
Vincenzo Mezzacappa tied the game with his first career homer, a solo shot in the fifth.
Anthony Stanziale scattered eight hits in a complete-game performance to pick up his first win of the season. He struck out one and walked none. Just two of Point Beach’s runs were earned.
John VanSchoick had a solo homer in the fourth. That gave Point Beach a 2-0 lead.
MATAWAN 1, OCEAN 0: Senior right-hander Nick Santuccio scattered four hits and struck out five and walked one while throwing just 85 pitches and Justin Henderson’s sacrifice fly scored Joe Piscopo in the fourth inning as the Huskies (2-0, 1-0) defeated the Spartans (2-1, 2-1) in a Class B North game.
Piscopo singled and Mike Creamer doubled to make it second and third before Henderson’s sac fly.
Ocean pitcher Blake Demeter pitched a four-hitter in his first varsity start. He struck out eight.
BRICK MEMORIAL 4, BRICK 3: Justin Donlon’s two-run RBI pinch-hit single in his first varsity at-bat capped a four-run top of the sixth that wiped out a 2-0 deficit, Anthony Assantte struck out 10 in 51⁄3 innings and junior Ian Anbriose struck out the side in the seventh to pick up his first varsity save as the Mustangs (1-3, 1-1) defeated the Green Dragons (2-2, 1-2) in a Class A South game.
All of Brick Memorial’s runs were unearned. Assante (1-1) allowed two runs on six hits and walked three.
Brick pitcher Evan Lobato did not allow an earned run and struck out five and walked four in six innings.
COLTS NECK 6, HOWELL 5: Jordan Gonzalez’s three-run home run capped a four-run sixth inning and gave the Cougars (2-0, 2-0) a 6-2 lead and Chris Murphy got a forceout at third with the bases loaded and two out in the bottom of the sixth as Colts Neck defeated the Rebels (2-1, 1-1), No. 9 in the Asbury Park Press Top 10, in a Class A North game that was called after six innings because of rain.
Gonzalez had four RBI and Tyler Kapusczinski was 2-for-3 and scored two runs for Colts Neck.
Ryan Wares was 3-for-3 with an RBI and scored a run, Andrew Larsen went 2-for-3 and scored two runs and Mike Levy was 2-for-3 and scored a run for Howell.
JACKSON LIBERTY 2, MANCHESTER 0: Senior Dan Naif struck out eight, walked one, hit a batter and also capped a two-run third inning with a single that scored James Sofield as the Lions (1-3, 1-2) defeated the Hawks (2-3, 2-1) in a Class B South game that was called in the middle of the fifth inning because of rain.
Matt Pinto scored the only run Naif (1-1) needed on a passed ball.
Manchester’s Devin Tomei struck out six, walked one and allowed six hits in a complete game.
MANALAPAN 3, FREEHOLD TWP. 1: Alex Wolf’s two-run single in the bottom of the fourth accounted for the only runs pitchers Nick Marotta and Alex Wolf needed, as the Braves (1-2, 1-1) defeated the No. 10 Patriots (1-2, 0-2) in a Class A North game.
Marotta pitched four innings to pick up his first varsity win. Wolf got the save by pitching the last three innings.
Dan Russo went 2-for-3 with an RBI double in the sixth for Manalapan.
KEANSBURG 6, KEYPORT 0: Mike Politano pitched a complete-game four-hitter and Ian Terry had a three-run triple in the bottom of the second and scored on an error on the same play, as the Titans (2-1, 2-1) defeated the Red Raiders (0-3, 0-3) in a Class B Central game.
Politano (1-1) struck out six and walked two.
