Troy Brown Jr. is the top point guard in the ESPN 25 and No. 2 overall player in the class of 2017. After dominating the AAU circuit this summer, The Centennial (Las Vegas) star has everyone from Arizona to Duke to Arizona State, among many others, hot on his trail. Now Brown has agreed to give USA TODAY HSS exclusive access into his world by chronicling everything from intimate details about his recruitment to his everyday life in a monthly blog.

This is your boy Troy and what I’m really focused on is starting the season off right and being on the same page in every way with my teammates. I just feel like we need to start off the season the right way in order to set the tone for the season that we want to have.

So far we’ve been doing that.

We had a Halloween tournament and we beat Bishop Gorman. That was big for us because they’re our rivals, but Chase (Jeter) got hurt the game before and he didn’t play against us.

That’s a big loss for them because that’s where they’re stronger with Chase and big Zimmer (Stephen Zimmerman); we’re more guard heavy so that played into our hands.

We just double-teamed big Zimm and let the point guards shoot and we really executed well on both ends of the floor. We won 86-80.

We were all happy about the win, but I told my teammates that we couldn’t get complacent because they didn’t have Chase and there were a lot of different things that we could’ve done even better.

We just used it as motivation to play even better next time.

But, yeah, it felt good; we got a few bragging right after that one.

I had 10 points, 11 rebounds and nine assists, so I just missed the triple-double. I was happy with how I played because I felt like I was getting everyone involved and picking my spots well. I’m just working on being that second coach on the floor; I feel like we’ll be a better team when I do that.

We have our first game today so we’re all really excited about that. We’re in Utah playing so road trips are always fun, but we’re just focused on what we have to do.

This year we’ve got a really good team and I feel like we’ve got a lot better chemistry.

My only goal is to lead my team to a state title. I’m putting everything into that.

I’ve definitely been watching a lot of basketball and Cleveland has been looking a little shaky this season. I said they’d need a couple years to develop, but, in a way, I thought LeBron would get them on the right page by now. They’ll get it together though.

I love watching the Spurs and how well they play as a team, and I’ve been watching the Lakers ever since Swaggy P came back! That dude is hilarious!

Most of the college coaches recruiting me have been talking to my parents. The assistant coach from Kentucky reached out to let them know they were gonna start recruiting me so that’s pretty cool. Then Coach (Dave) Rice from UNLV came to my practice last week too. I know most coaches are busy with their seasons right now.

I don’t have any visits set up for the season right now; I’m just focused on getting the job done in my own season. We’ll see; if that changes I’ll let you guys know.

School is going great. I’m definitely picking things up in the classroom even more now that the season has started.

Have you guys seen The Hunger Games: MockingJay yet? I definitely want to see that one soon! I read the first two books and I loved them both. Everybody’s talking about it so I’ve gotta go see it soon.

As for music, I’m still on my Drake tip right now so, again, y’all check that out too.

OK, I’m gonna get outta here now; it’s your boy Troy Brown and I appreciate you reading my player blog once again. Check back with me because I’ll be back with the next one soon.
