CHARLOTTE, N.C. — Two Charlotte area high schools have been nominated by USA TODAY High School Sports for the best boys sports program. The contest will begin with 255 schools, with the overall strength of all the individual boys programs as the criteria for inclusion. Each state, as well as Washington D.C. will have five eligible schools.

In Charlotte, the two eligible schools are Ardrey Kell High School and William A. Hough High School. These schools will be eligible for a grand prize of $1000 and a USA TODAY High School Sports banner at their school.

Ardrey Kell High School: A consistently solid program, Ardrey Kell was awarded the SoMeck 4-A Wells Fargo Conference Cup for the 2013-14 school year. Each Wells Fargo Conference Cup recognizes schools with the best overall interscholastic athletic performances within individual conferences. During the spring sports season, the Knights’ baseball, golf and outdoor track and field squads were all crowned conference champions.

William A. Hough High School: Hough was awarded the MeCKa 4-A Wells Fargo Conference Cup for the 2013-14 school year. Each Wells Fargo Conference Cup recognizes schools with the best overall interscholastic athletic performances within individual conferences. This past spring, the Huskies won conference titles in baseball, golf and tennis. After the 2012-13 school year, Hough finished third in the NCHSAA Wells Fargo Cup standings.
