The Coachella Valley High School boys’ soccer team began its season on a winning note, defeating Shadow Hills 1-0 at home.
Jorge Bedolla scored the winning goal for the Arabs midway through the first half on an assist by Li Abundez.
Coachella Valley visits Desert Hot Springs on Thursday.

Desert Mirage 2, Jurupa Hills 0: On a rainy day and a flooded field, the Rams recorded a shutout on the road. Juan Gutierrez scored on an assist by Luis Hernandez in the 45th minute while Irvin Centeno delivered a 20-yard strike in the 80th minute for the insurance goal. Desert Mirage plays in the Heritage tournament on Thursday.
Xavier Prep 2, Twentynine Palms 1: Connor Kinsey scored in the 38th minute while Isaac Ortega added a goal in the 70th minute to lift the Saints. Xavier Prep (1-1) hosts Aquinas at 5 p.m. Wednesday.
Xavier Prep 6, Twentynine Palms 1: Glenda Lopez delivered a stellar performance with four goals, including two on headers off cornerkicks to lift the Saints on the road. Jenny Vargas and Brooklyn Nunez also scored for Xavier Prep, while Avery Vuksic and Kiara Kinsey had two assists apiece. Colby Kalisek added one assist. Cat Aguilar recorded two saves in goal for the Saints (2-0).
Indio 3, Brawley 0: The Rajahs recorded their first victory behind goals by Natalia Loza, Erika Lopez and Yasmine Murillo. Jocelyn Cardenas stood out defensively with two key saves at goal for Indio (1-1), which faces Desert Hot Springs at 2 p.m. on Thursday in the Desert Mirage tournament.
Shadow Hills 3, Coachella Valley 0: Natalie Navarro scored twice and Luz Quezada also contributed in the scoring to lead the Knights. Jackie Rodriguez added two assists for Shadow Hills while Vanessa Caudillo had one assist.
Rancho Mirage 4, Woodcrest Christian 0: The Rams picked up their first ever varsity victory as Kenya Cordero and Cindy Martinez scored two goals apiece. Katie Nolan added three assists while Jasmin Sterling recorded the shutout for Rancho Mirage, which faces Paloma Valley in the Beaumont tournament on Thursday.
Palm Desert 65, Banning 22: At the Beaumont tournament, the Aztecs allowed just five second-half points to win their season opener. Joey Fabela led Palm Desert with 13 points while Aaron Cordero followed with 12 points and six assists. Remi deGrat (nine points), Anthony Murdica (nine points, eight rebounds, six assists) and Alex McGrath (eight points, five rebounds) also contributed for the Aztecs, who continue tournament play against Oak Hills at 6 p.m. Wednesday.
Cathedral City 87, Twentynine Palms 75: At the Beaumont tournament, the Lions improved to 2-0 behind 26 points by Darien Broom. Orlando Wallace had 15 points while Nick Jimenez scored 13 for Cathedral City (2-0), which continues tournament play at 4:30 p.m. Wednesday against Redlands East Valley.
Rancho Mirage 79, Brawley 55: The Rattlers improved to 2-0 behind a double-double by Bryan Talley, who finished with 17 points and 13 rebounds. Daryn Evans finished with 16 points and 11 rebounds while Charles Neal also scored 16. Tyrell Robinson chipped in with 15 points for Rancho Mirage, which visits Los Osos on Wednesday.
Xavier Prep 45, Desert Christian Academy 38: The Saints picked up the victory over the Conquerors. No information was recorded from Xavier Prep. The Conquerors were led by Rich Twiss (11 points) and Ben Roethler (seven points).
Hillcrest 35, Coachella Valley 30: Daniel Torres paced the Arabs with nine points while Ruben Dominguez scored six in the loss. Coachella Valley hosts Palo Verde at 6:30 p.m. Wednesday.
Desert Mirage 51, Holtville 42: The Rams won their season opener as Martin Armenta led with 17 points. Rigo Guzman finished with 10 points and seven rebounds for Desert Mirage.
Shadow Hills 45, Coachella Valley 30: Gianna Luna recorded 16 points and six steals to lead the Knights. Jerrica Perez added 10 points, seven rebounds, five assists and three blocks, while Elaine Moya scored seven for Shadow Hills, who finished with 23 steals. Leyah Toland contributed eight steals for the Knights, who play Southwest at 5:30 p.m. Wednesday.
Desert Christian Academy 53, Upland Christian 16: Briana Norheim had 19 points and Abby Wagner scored 17 to lift the Conquerors. Bella Smith stood out defensively for Desert Christian Academy, which hosts Liberty Charter at 1 p.m. on Saturday.
Palm Desert 58, Yucca Valley 18: The Aztecs had little trouble on the road in their season opener. Eric Santana (113 pounds), Trevor Dalskov (132), Bennett Weaver (138), Billy Weaver (145) and Niko Sharp (285) won by pin for Palm Desert. Other winners included Chase Overgaag (120), Evan Cowan (126), Jacob Chaplin (152), Jayson Frisbie (160) and Cameron Van Dyke (170).

Palm Desert 12, Xavier Prep 3: Sarah Nichols had four goals and two assists while Samantha Sandoval and Cassie Bija finished with two goals apiece to lift the Aztecs. Elise Stein, Alina Hudson, Alyssa Clyde and Samantha Stein added a goal apiece for Palm Desert while Savannah Clyde recorded 14 saves in goal.
Shadow Hills 21, Indio 5: Ramsie Haskell had a solid offensive performance with eight goals for the Knights in the victory. Gloria Flores followed with three scores while Joselyn Cendejas, Dorana Seraj, Lavin Benes and Emilia Brady each scored twice.
The Rajahs were paced by Liz Lopez (three goals) and Sandy Villa (two).
