Vestal gets bye in BCHSHA playoffs

Chenango Forks scored 37 seconds into the game but Vestal ended up with a 7-2 victory on Sunday at the SUNY Broome Ice Center to finish the Broome County High School Hockey Association regular season with a 15-1-2 record and first-round playoff bye.

Ross Boots, Nick Barney and Matt Benko each scored in the first period for Vestal, which led 3-1 after the first and later added three more goals in the third period. Barney finished with two goals and two assists, while Boots finished with two goals and an assist.

Jeffrey Halstrom and Josh Maus scored for Chenango Forks (6-8-4).

Maine-Endwell 7, Union-Endicott 2: Jeremy Wilber had a goal and assist in the first period, Kyle Balmer did the same in the second period, and Brendan Dyer did the same in the third period for Maine-Endwell (14-3-1).

Wilber finished with two goals and two assists, while Balmer finished with a goal and two assists. Tom Cataldo scored both goals for Union-Endicott (4-12-2).
