Vestal’s Kari Stromhaug and Mike Egotanda each won state titles on Saturday at the New York State Indoor Track and Field Championships at Barton Hall on the Cornell University campus.
Stromhaug, a junior, won the girls pole vault at 11 feet, 6 inches, three inches better than second-place Karmen Auble of Warsaw. Waverly junior Sidney Shafer tied for 17th at 9-0.
Stromhaug placed fourth at the event last year.
Egotanda, a senior, won the long jump at 22-1 ¾. Egotanda, who placed fifth in the long jump last year, edged out runner-up Rayvon Grey of Beacon (22-11 ½).
Corning High freshman Jessica Lawson won the girls 3,000-meter, completing the race in 9 minutes, 49.68 seconds to head off runner-up Bella Burda of Arlington (9:53.47) by almost three seconds.
Sophomore Emily Mackay of Union-Endicott finished ninth in the 1,500 (4:49.76).
Norwich senior Matt Murray placed second in the 600 (1:21.55). Murray won the event at last year’s meet.
