Volleyball: DVL, De Anza All-League players named

The Desert Valley League and De Anza League’s top volleyball players were announced and CIF champion Palm Springs High School leads the way with MVP Mary Lake selected as the league’s best. Lake is a junior and an early commitment to Brigham Young.

The Indians also placed sophomore Hannah Wright and senior Michaela Hissam on the first team.

Shadow Hills earned top honors as the three-time De Anza League champion and senior Evelyn Lopez was selected defensive MVP of the league. Lopez is joined by other first team honorees, Knights’ teammates Bethany Castillo, Shay Mesa and Karla Torres.

Both league champs also were honored to have respective coaches of the year — Gary Wilhoite of Palm Springs and Melissa Walker of Shadow Hills.
