Volleyball: Margaretta falls to New Riegel

A make-shift line-up was too much for Margaretta’s volleyball team to overcome in its season-opener as the Polar Bears lost in three games to New Riegel, 25-15, 25-14, 25-20.

Playing without seniors Becky Keller (injury) and Gabby Keller (family obligation), Margaretta had to shift much of its personnel and played several sophomores in unfamiliar positions.

“I thought for having to switch the line-up with just four days in advance…I thought they hung in there,” Margaretta coach Laura Lesinewski said. “In the third game they settled down and got more comfortable.”

Marissa Windau led the Polar Bears with eight kills while Michaela Eisenhauer added seven kills with three blocks. Holly Harris had 20 assists, Alex Michel had 13 digs and Alex Kessler three blocks.

“It was a good way for my sophomores to get a sense of what’s expected of them and how fast varsity play is,” Lesinewski said. “Once we get Becky and Gabbie back we should be able to turn it around.”
