BOONE, N.C. — The Friday Night Frenzy Team of the Week is the Watauga High School Pioneers and they hosted Patton in 4A/3A Northwestern Conference action. The Pioneers were in control from the opening whistle, never trailing against the visiting Panthers. Watauga got off to a hot start, scoring on their opening possession to lead 7-0.
After forcing a fumble and recovering on Patton’s first time with the ball, the Pioneers jumped out to a quick 14-0 lead. Watauga dug deep into the bag of tricks just before the half, scoring on a hook-and-ladder making the score 20-0. After the extra point was muffed, the Pioneers recovered the loose ball and converted a two-point conversion to make it 22-0 at halftime.
Evan Suggs broke loose on a 64-yard touchdown run midway through the third quarter, handing Watauga an insurmountable lead at 29-0. The Pioneers controlled the remainder of the game, rolling to an easy 43-6 victory.
