West Monroe QB Belton out for season

West Monroe junior quarterback Jon Randall Belton has a torn ACL in the same knee he injured in 2013 and will miss the season after surgery on Wednesday.

Belton injured the knee early in Friday’s scrimmage versus Parkway.

“We could tell something was different but thought the knee was a little fatigued,” West Monroe coach Jerry Arledge said. “He told me later that he just wanted to keep playing because he knew that was it for the year.”

Senior Dustin Mitchell will move from linebacker to quarterback this week. Mitchell started five games for the Rebels at quarterback in 2013 when Belton injured his knee.

“Mitchell is a senior and is now a year older from last year,” Arledge said. “(Sophomore) Robert Foust will be the backup.”
