WIAA basketball: Sheboygan Lutheran falls to Green Bay NEW Lutheran in Division 5 state semifinal

Green Bay NEW Lutheran had two players post double-doubles en route to a 77-63 victory over Sheboygan Lutheran on Thursday in a WIAA Division 5 state semifinal boys’ basketball matchup at the Kohl Center in Madison.

The victory advances the Blazers into Saturday’s Division 5 state championship game, which is scheduled to tip off at 11:05 a.m.

Dakota Zinser poured in a game-high 33 points and grabbed 10 rebounds for the Blazers, while Nathan Toenjes added 14 points and 12 rebounds.

The Blazers (27-1) outrebounded the Crusaders (25-3) 39-24 and shot 55 percent overall. Thursday’s victory also marked the second time this season NEW Lutheran has beaten Sheboygan Lutheran.

The two teams also battled on Dec. 14, with the host Blazers earning a 98-91 victory.

Jeff Hess paced Sheboygan Lutheran with 22 points, and teammate Jake Jurss finished with 20 points.
