WIAA boys basketball: Roncalli earns No. 1 seed


Roncalli received a No. 1 seed in Division 3 as the WIAA released the brackets for the boys basketball tournament on Sunday evening.

The tournament begins with regional quarterfinal play on Feb. 25 and culminates with the state tournament on March 13-15 at the Kohl Center in Madison.

Division 1

Manitowoc Lincoln (6-13) received an eight seed and will host Fox River Classic Conference foe No. 9 Green Bay East (4-17) in a regional quarterfinal. The Ships have defeated the Red Devils twice this season.

Division 3

Top-seeded Roncalli (19-1) received a first-round bye. This Jets host the winner of a game between No. 9 Kiel (9-12) and No. 8 Sturgeon Bay (10-10) on Feb. 28.

Second-seeded Valders (17-3) also has a bye until the regional semis. The Vikings await the winner of a matchup between New Holstein and Southern Door.

Two Rivers (13-7) plays host to Denmark (3-18) in a regional quarterfinal. The winner of that game will travel to Wrightstown the following Friday.

Division 4

Reedsville earned the highest seed of the three area teams in Division 4. The No. 5 Panthers (12-8) host St. Mary Central (3-16) on Feb. 25. The Panthers swept the two-game, regular season series.

Seventh-seeded Manitowoc Lutheran (8-12) entertains Rosholt (6-14) in a regional opener, while No. 11 Mishicot (3-17) travels to No. 6 Algoma (12-8).
