WIAA softball: Postseason begins today for 6 teams

With the regular season in the books, the WIAA State Softball Playoffs begin today with six of the eight area squads in action.

Division 2 will see a pair of No. 7 seeds face No. 2s as Kiel visits Waupun and Two Rivers travels to Luxemburg-Casco. Kiel has lost both games to the Warriors this season by a combined margin of 24-2 while Two Rivers has yet to face Spartans.

Two local teams will meet up in Division 3, with No. 3 Roncalli hosting No. 6 Manitowoc Lutheran. The Jets prevailed in the lone matchup between the two teams in a slugfest 17-16.

Also in D3, No. 2 Reedsville welcomes No. 7 Brillion and No. 5 Valders takes on host No. 4 New Holstein.

The Panthers and Lions split the two-game season series, with Reedsville winning 11-1 and Brillion 15-4. Meanwhile the Vikings and Huskies have not met this season although they were scheduled to play March 28 but the contest was canceled.

The two teams from Manitowoc County not playing today are Mishicot and Manitowoc Lincoln.

The No. 1 seeded Indians will host the winner of No. 5 Gibraltar/Washington Island and No. 4 Kewaunee on Tuesday in Division 3.

As for the Ships, the Division 1 brackets have yet to be released although Lincoln will likely be in action on Tuesday.
