WIAA softball roundup: Lutheran avenges loss to Roncalli, advances to D3 regional semi

Back on April 11, the Manitowoc Lutheran softball team found itself on the short end of a 17-16 game against Roncalli.

On Thursday, the visiting Lancers avenged that loss, downing the third-seeded Jets 8-5 in a WIAA Division 3 regional quarterfinal game.

Lindsay Engelbrecht was 2-for-4 four the Lancers with a home run and two RBIs, while teammate MacKayla Menges went 2-for-3 with two RBIs.

Hannah Severin led the Jets with three hits and two RBIs.

Tiffany Abts was the losing pitcher. She worked all seven innings and allowed six earned runs on 11 hits. She struck out four and walked three.

Menges recorded the complete-game win. She struck out seven and allowed five earned runs on 11 hits.

The Lancers will host No. 7 Brillion in a regional semifinal game on Thursday. Lutheran split its season series with the Lions, winning the most recent meeting 21-5 on Monday.

New Holstein 13, Valders 0 (5)

The No. 5 Vikings’ season came to an end at the hands of a loss to host No. 4 seed New Holstein.

Tara Emme had the lone hit for Valders.

Brittany Erickson took the loss. She struck out four and walked three in four innings.

Brillion 8, Reedsville 7

The visiting Lions scored a run in the top of the seventh to pull the upset over the No. 2 Panthers.

Sammy Van Ells and Jill Kocian each had a hit and two RBIs for the Panthers. Olivia Dietrich also drove in a run.

Chloe Sebo was handed the loss. She allowed four earned runs in seven innings of work, striking out three.

Reedsville ended its season with a record of 15-8.

Division 2 Lux.-Casco 15, Two Rivers 0 (5)

The No. 7 Raiders fell to No. 2 Luxemburg-Casco on the road.

The Spartans host Wrightstown on Tuesday.

Complete stats were not provided.

Waupun 9, Kiel 0

The Raiders managed just one hit in their season finale against No. 2 seed Waupun.

The Warriors host Chilton next Tuesday.

D1 Seeds released

The WIAA recently released seeds for the Division 1 tournament.

Manitowoc Lincoln received a No. 12 seed. The Ships will travel to take on No. 5 Appleton North on Tuesday.
