THE WINNER: Olin Hacker

THE BASICS

School: Madison (Wis.) West
Grade: Junior
Position: Distance runner
Height: 5-foot-7

Athletic achievement: He raced to the Division I individual state championship this past season with a time of 15:46.19. A 2013 First Team All-State selection, Hacker took 12th at the Foot Locker Midwest Regional championships, crossing the line in 15:29. He also earned second place at the Roy Griak Invitational, finishing in 15:33.40.

Academic excellence: Hacker has maintained a 4.0 GPA and is ranked first in his graduating class.

Exemplary character: He has volunteered locally on behalf of the University of Wisconsin Hospital, at an ice skating rink and as a youth running coach.

THE PRAISE

“Olin Hacker has taken it upon himself to try to become the best he can be,” said Madison West head coach Tom Kaufman. “This has manifested itself in his school work, his community work and his running. He is truly the consummate student-athlete.”

THE FUTURE: Hacker will be a senior this fall.
