Three area prep wrestlers won Wisconsin Wrestling Federation state titles in both freestyle and Greco-Roman-style this weekend in Wisconsin Dells.
Paul Bianchi, Jose Acosta, and Matt Halverson each claimed championships in both styles. The group wrestled for X-Factor Elite Wrestling Club, which operates out of Manitowoc.
Bianchi (113), who recently completed his sophomore season at Two Rivers, went 5-0 in freestyle on Saturday with four wins coming by technical fall and the other coming via pin. He followed that up with a 4-0 showing in Greco on Sunday. He recorded three tech falls and a pin.
Halverson (285), the former Kiel standout, picked up three wins by technical fall in junior freestyle on Saturday and three more wins in Greco the following day.
Both Bianchi and Halverson won state titles in folkstyle during the high school season, giving them championships in all three styles, this year.
Manitowoc Lincoln’s Jose Acosta (126) recorded three wins by technical fall and another by fall en route to a cadet freestyle championship on Saturday. He then went 5-0 on Sunday to collect the Greco championship.
Two Rivers’ Ty Pelot, who recently committed to wrestling Greco at the US Olympic Education Center, took top honors in Greco at 126 pounds in the junior division and placed fourth in freestyle.
