Kiel’s Matt Halverson placed third in Greco-Roman at 120 kilograms at the FILA Junior World Team Trials in Madison on Friday.
Halverson was pinned by Sam Stroll (Minnesota) in the championship match of the challenger tournament.
Two Rivers’ Ty Pelot took fifth at 60 kilograms. He fell to Blane Tschida (Minnesota) in the quarterfinals before falling to Thomas Walton (North Dakota) by pin in the consolation semifinals.
Both wrestlers had to earn the right to compete for a spot on the Junior World Team. Halverson qualified with his second place finish at folkstyle nationals in April and Pelot qualified with his eighth place finish at FILA Junior Greco Nationals in Las Vegas last month.
