The Ridge High School wrestling team won nine bouts, highlighted by four falls and major decision, to beat Hillsborough 43-18 Friday night in a Skyland Conference Delaware Division match.

The Red Devils (5-4) also got a key win from junior 152-pounder Connor Scherzer, who avenged an 8-1 loss to senior Patrick O’Callaghan in the Somerset County Tournament Jan. 11 with a 3-2 triumph. Ridge beat Hillsborough 34-26 last season in Bernards.

Ridge won the first six bouts as senior Josh Rand (182), sophomore Mo Attie (285) and sophomore Jack Fleishman (106) pinned before senior 113-pounder Vincent Bommier won by major as the Red Devils took a 31-0 lead. Hillsborough sophomore Brett Magliaro beat James Palmer at 120, before Ridge sophomore 126-pounder William Schmidt pinned for a 37-3 lead. The Raiders (10-5) cut into the lead with a fall from junior 132-pounder Jack Donnadio and sophomore 138-pounder Tanner Johnson’s decision. But Red Devils’ junior 145-pounder Austin Oliver, who beat senior Louis White 6-0 in a county semifinal, won the rematch 5-0 to give Ridge a 40-12 lead.

Hillsborough will try to get back on track this morning when it travels to Watchung Hills for a quad with Franklin, North Hunterdon and the hosts.

Delaware Valley 50, Montgomery 18: The Terriers (13-2) won 10 of 14, rolling on the strength of six falls and technical fall to open the match from 145-pounder Codey Leh. Del Val senior 160-pounder Nour Mays (14-4) beat senior Martin Farricker a third place finisher in the Somerset County Tournament. Farricker, 14-5, had won seven straight before the 9-3 loss. Montgomery’s senior county champ Anthony Cassar (19-0) scored a fall at 195 as did junior 170-pounder Alex Doty (10-9)

Cranford 39, Westfield 22: Four forfeited weights hurt the Blue Devils (8-5) chances. Westfield’s senior Union County champs Matt Barber (21-1) and Nick Velez (19-3) won by decision and major at 145 and 152 respectively. Cranford is 9-2.

South Plainfield 57, Piscataway 10: Piscataway senior 152-pounder Javiair White (14-2) and South Plainfield senior 152-pounder Inan Sikel moved up to 160 where White handed Sikel (18-1) his first loss of the season with a 10-4 decision in the opening bout of the night. White has won four straight since a 12-6 loss to Trenton Central standout Maaziah Bethea, fifth in the state last year at 145 and seventh at 132 two years ago.Piscataway junior 182-pounder Eti-ini Udott won by major to improve to 14-2. The Tigers won 11 bouts with 106-pounder Jeff Plungis registering an 11-second fall. Senior 220-pounder Lucio Avelar (9-10) beat senior Alan Cruz (11-5) 6-4 in overtime and senior 195-pounder Luigi Gerardi (10-9) beat senior Matt Oliva 6-0 at 195. Oliva, 10-5, had won six straight.

The Tigers, 15-5, bounced back from a 22-20 loss last Saturday to Jackson Memorial. Piscataway is 3-7.

Monroe 55, South Brunswick 6: Harrison Utter (160), Donald Albach (126), Nicholas Goff (22), Sal Profaci (132) and Anthony Aversano (145) had falls for Monroe. Jake Daniel (120) and Mike Klimkiewicz (113) had decision wins for South Brunswick.

Princeton 57, Highland Park 21: The Owls were down 33-0 before 145-pounder Matt Schrager’s fall at 145. Jeffrey Mathis (170) and Dylan Boyntan (182) also had falls and 195-pounder Tyler Vella had a win.

Spotswood 39, Keansburg 36: Max Pavlis fall at 285 and a forfeit win by 106-pounder Justin Thompson to clinch it for Spotswood.

Old Bridge 49, Perth Amboy 21: Norberto Torres; fall at 106 gave Perth Amboy a 21-14, but Old Bridge rolled off the final seven with Nick Botte (113) and Nick Sodano (138)winning by pin and John McCarthy (145) by technical fall.

Carteret 50, J.P. Stevens 15: Mohammed Dhillo opened the match with a first period fall at 106 and the Ramblers went on to win four wrestled bouts. J.P. Stevens’ Tahir Gooding scored a 7-6 victory over James Halladay at 126 and Paul Kim had a fall at 220.
