Plymouth Invitational: Lomira had a good day at the eight-team round-robin tournament, finishing second to division 1’s Wisconsin Rapids — which received honorable mention in the latest wiwrestling.com division 1 rankings. The Lions are a D3 team.
Lomira went 4-1 on the day, picking up wins over Milwaukee Pulaski (70-9), Elkhart Lake (63-15), Brookfield Central (38-30) and Bradley Tech (45-30) before falling 69-7 to Rapids in the final round.
Two wrestlers went undefeated at 5-0 for the Lions — ninth-ranked Cayden Wiese at 126 pounds and second-ranked Casey Seltrecht at 145.
“They’re just senior leaders and did a nice job,” Lomira coach Dave Meyer said. “They pretty much dominated their weight class all day.”
Lomira was without a couple of its seniors due to illness, so Meyer had a lineup that included five freshmen and five sophomores.
Three other Lions went 4-1 — Chase Parr at 113, Erik Danner at 132 and Mitch Garriety at 138.
That loss to Rapids was Lomira’s first of the season in duals. It is now 22-1.
“It was a learning experience for our team,” Meyer said about facing a D1 team. “We hope our team takes it the right way.”
